Attending the F1 Academy races, meeting Joanne Ciconte, and getting lost on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
June 12th marked my first time attending the famous Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the 44th Formula 1 grand prix.
As a huge fan of Formula 1 I had always found myself seeing photos and promotional content by F1 Academy, but never really taking the time to indulge myself in their races. After attending the grand prix, you can guarantee the academy gained a new fan.
From meet and greets to paddock walks, F1 Academy provided a multitude of opportunities for F1 fans to draw them into the future of motorsport. They hosted some of my favorite events of the weekend.
The second day of race weekend, I arrived at the circuit early to attend the meet and greet. I had absolutely no clue how to navigate the circuit and eventually just followed a group of people hoping they would lead me to the academy paddock. I then waited in line in the blazing Canadian sun, achieving the worst sunburn I think my skin could handle, and somehow made it to the front of the m&g line. It was worth it. I then met an amazing lineup of formula one’s next drivers including Ferrari’s Maya Weug, the iconic Charlotte Tilbury’s Chloe Chong, and Wella’s Joanne Ciconte. Being just 19 myself, I was amazed by the professionalism and hard work that these young girls put into achieving their dream career. Joanne was one of the sweetest people I have had the joy of meeting, and I can’t wait to see her go far in her career.
While watching the actual racing, I was truly amazed. After finding out that all F1 Academy cars are the same, I realized the talent that everyone on the grid possesses. I found the racing element to be one of the most enjoyable aspects of the entire weekend, from the reverse grid to multiple races in the weekend there was always something to look forward to.
These drivers are the future of formula 1 and are actively changing the racing field. If you’re looking to know more about the inner workings of the sport and the backstories of the drivers, check out F1: The Academy, on Netflix.
